The CLEP provides students of any age with the opportunity to demonstrate college-level achievement through a program of exams in undergraduate college courses. There are 2,900 colleges that grant credit and/or advanced standing for CLEP exams.

CLEP is the most widely accepted credit by examination program in the country. American higher education has a tradition of recognizing prior learning. Colleges have long understood that acknowledging prior learning benefits both institutions and their students. CLEP is an important part of this tradition.

CLEP consists of a series of examinations that test an individual’s college level knowledge gained through course work, independent study, cultural pursuits, travel, special interests, military service schools, and professional development. The American Council on Education (ACE) recommends the minimum score for awarding credit but each institution determines its acceptable score and the amount of credit granted for each examination.

Each 90-minute examination allows you to demonstrate your knowledge in a wide range of subjects. You are recognized and rewarded for what you know, no matter how or where you learned it--in school, on the job, or through your own reading, observation and independent study. CLEP can help you get the college credits you need to reach your career and educational goals more quickly.
