Eligibility Requirements

Professional Knowledge Tests
A professional knowledge test is required of all applicants for a teaching certificate. There are three levels of the Professional Knowledge test: Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary.

SubjectKnowledge Tests
Candidates must take a test in the specific area inwhich they are seeking certification if a test is offered in that area.Information about test and/or credit hour requirements for approved areas inwhich AEPA assessments are not offered can be found on the ADE Certification Unit’s Web site at www.ade.az.gov/certification.

 

Constitutionsof the and Arizona Test
Candidates applying for certification to become ateacher or school administrator are required to pass an examination on the provisions and principles of the Constitutions of the
and Arizona. Candidates who have successfully completed ADE-approved coursework in this area are exempt from this requirement.

Administrator Tests
Candidates who wish to become certified school administrators must take the appropriate test as a condition of receiving certification as a superintendent, principal, or supervisor.

Tests for Additional Approved Areas
A person who holds an
Arizona elementary or secondary certificate and applies for an additional approved area must take the relevant subject knowledge test, if one is offered.
