Test Specifications
The NET (Nurse Entrance Test) is a computer based test consisting of six parts: math skills, reading comprehension, test taking skills, stress level, social interaction, and learning style. All six parts must be completed in order to receive scores and be considered for admission. However, only the math and reading scores will be used to calculate application eligibility. A reading score of 50% or higher and a math score of 50% or higher must be achieved for admission for most schools.

Math skills problems consist of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percentages, number system conversions and algebra equations (60 problems in 60 minutes). Calculators are NOT allowed. Scratch paper will be provided.
Reading comprehension involves reading selections and answering questions (33 questions in 30 minutes). |

| Section 1 – Essential Math Skills
The NET evaluates basic operations in mathematics that are essential for success in higher education programs.
Section 2 – Reading Rate
The NET estimates the words per minute that the applicant can read when placed in a test or study situation.
Section 3 – Reading Comprehension for Science Textbooks
The NET evaluates reading comprehension at the inferential level for science-related material. The reading selections are written at the tenth grade level of difficulty for vocabulary and sentence syntax.
Section 4 – Written Expression
This subtest evaluates a person’s recognition of correct sentence structure, basic spelling patterns, nominative/objective case of pronouns, subject/verb agreement, capitalization rules and fundamentals of punctuation.
Section 5 – Stress Level Profile
The NET produces a self-perceived stress profile for each examinee. The five important areas of personal coping are: family life, social life, the work place, academic adequacy, and time/money. |

Section 6 – Learning Style
The NET calculates each student’s learning style: Auditory, Oral Dependent, Social, Solitary, Visual, or Writing Dependent Learner.
Section 7 – Test-taking Skills
The NET measures ability to utilize test-taking strategies when taking objective, essay and standardized examinations. One of three proficiency levels in test-taking strategies is assigned to each student who completes the NET.
